The opportunity
Online travel is a booming business, with sales in Western Europe projected to reach €41.6bn (£28.5bn) in 2006, a whopping 45% up on 2005 (source: PhoCusWright). In any given month, one in four web users visits a travel website; that is over 150m people. Moreover, almost 40% of traffic to travel and destination sites is driven by search engines and directories. This presents publishers with a huge opportunity. Google’s (and its competitors’) holy grail is to find meaningful editorial content and avoid the traps set by ‘optimised’ e-commerce sites, such as travel booking engines.

How we can help
We at The Content Works are now collaborating with publishers to take advantage of this opportunity by building content-rich, search-engine-driven websites with a commercial element. This could be commission-based affiliate deals with airlines and tour operators or a premium-listings model. Search engine experts with a proven track record provide us with the latest knowledge in the fast changing field of search engine optimisation. We have also assembled a team of web designers, content management specialists, technical project managers and programmers.

Our credentials
Our experienced web writers and editors created destination content for portals such as AOL DigitalCity, Yahoo! and Lycos, and travel companies such as Orbitz, Amadeus and Sabre. We have recently launched Ultimate Ski, a website we developed for publisher Ultimate Sports (see case study), and have built Insight Travel Online for Insight Guides.
