Company history
The Content Works was established in 2002 by Rik Mulder and Lisa Plumridge. Rik and Lisa were the content and editorial management of wcities Ltd., a company that built and then licensed a database of travel information to web and mobile portals and travel companies. Upon leaving this company, they realised they could use their experience in creating and managing travel and local content, together with the good relations they had built up with freelance writers and translators around the world, to provide content services to publishers.

One of the first clients was Dorling Kindersley (see case 1), publisher of the acclaimed Eyewitness Guides. More recently, The Content Works has gone back to its web roots, partnering with guidebook publishers on sites such as Insight Travel Online and Ultimate Ski (see case 2).
